Dear Parents and Guardians:

I am looking forward to all the new faces at Eckstein.  I would like to thank all of the 2008-2009 parent volunteers and coordinators. Special thanks to Kim Henwood and Aline Parker for being co-chairs of the Friends of the Band for all they did last year. Also thanks to Mr. Smith and Mr. Rowe for all of their great teaching.  It was another awesome experience.

The following information should help your student get ready for a great musical experience at Eckstein Middle School.

Have a great year,

Mr. Escobedo - Director of Bands

Classroom Policies

  1. Students should be in their assigned seats with instruments 5 minutes after the bell rings.
  2. Students should come to class prepared with instruments, reeds, music and a PENCIL.
  3. Students should show respect for their classmates, equipment, teaching staff and rehearsal time.
Privately Owned Musical Instruments

While it is recognized that students need to bring privately owned musical instruments to school to participate in music class, it is not the policy for the Seattle Public Schools to assume responsibility for these instruments. SPS is not responsible for musical instruments.

  1. The Seattle Public Schools will provide as much security for all instruments as is possible with present storage facilities.
  2. Parents should investigate the possibility of including privately owned musical instruments on homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policies, or consider insuring instruments with one of several companies that provide insurance for musical instruments.
  3. Students should be instructed to be extremely careful about where their instrument is left while at school.  Whenever possible, instruments should be stored in the storage room designated by the music teacher.  Student cases should be plainly marked with the student’s name and school.
Concert Attire

All band students are asked to wear the following outfit for concerts or as requested.  The outfit consists of:

Girls - Black v-neck 3/4 length shirt, below the knee black skirt or black pants, and black shoes.

Boys - A winged-collar tuxedo shirt, black slacks, black socks, black shoes, and black bow-tie.

The tux shirt and black bow-tie can be purchased at The Tux Shop (Northgate) for a reduced price if you say you are from Eckstein Middle School.  Thanks to those who donated a shirt last year.

Thanks for supporting the Eckstein Middle School Bands with your time and donations.
