Welcome to Eckstein Bands!

Director of Bands - Cuauhtemoc Escobedo

Ken Pendergrass

First Band Parent Meeting
September 8th in the Band Room at 7:30 PM

Best Wishes Mr. Rowe
and Welcome Mr. Pendergrass

Mr. Rowe is leaving Eckstein and moving to Hamilton Middle School. This is a great loss for Eckstein but a great gain for Hamilton and music in the Seattle Schools. Mr. Rowe is extremely talented, patient and a great music educator. Thanks for all you have done at Eckstein, Mr. Rowe. Good luck at Hamilton.

Mr. Ken Pendergrass has accepted the job at Eckstein Middle School, replacing Mr. Rowe. He will be teaching Beginning Concert Band, Junior Concert Band, Concert Choir and Piano Lab. Mr. E and Mr. Smith are very excited to be working with Mr. Pendergrass. Mr. Pendergrass has skills that will fit nicely with Eckstein's strengths. It is going to be another wonderful musical year.

A Welcome From Our Band Parent Co-Chairs

Welcome new and returning band families and students to our thriving Eckstein band community! Here’s to an exciting year of playing music, concerts, competitions and learning.

Please join our Friends of the Band group at 7:30 p.m. on first Mondays of most months in the band room. At these meetings, you’ll hear the latest exciting band news from Mr. E. You’ll also have opportunities to volunteer or get involved in our program, supporting over 500 kids at Eckstein.

This year we welcome Mr. Ken Pendergrass to our program. He will direct Beginning and Junior Concert Bands, as well as our new Choir Group.

So join us. Ask questions. Rub elbows with fellow parents. Stay connected. And enjoy the music our kids are learning to play. It’s going to be a very musical year!

Your co-chairs: Kari Monsen and Tracy Romoser

ANOTHER ROUND OF APPLAUSE
FOR ECKSTEIN BAND!

Our Eckstein teachers and students are recognized nationally for musical excellence and your child is a rising star in the big show!

Confidence, self-esteem and teamwork is evident in all our students. They know that being in Senior Jazz Band or Wind Ensemble is a privilege that demands hard work and strong academic performance in other classes. Music students rise to the occasion at Eckstein and their teachers inspire them to do so.

MUSIC IS MAKING OUR KIDS SMARTER!

In a 1999 Columbia University study, students in the arts were found to be more cooperative with teachers and peers, more self-confident, and better able to express their ideas. These benefits exist across socioeconomic levels. The Arts Education Partnership

College admissions officers continue to cite participation in music as an important factor in making admissions decisions. They claim that music participation demonstrates time management, creativity, expression, and open-mindedness. Carl Hartman, Arts May Improve Students' Grades. The Associated Press, October, 1999

AND OUR KIDS APPRECIATE ECKSTEIN MUSIC

"I am so happy and fortunate to have you as a band director. Band has always been my favorite class, not just because I love jazz but because I know that every day you are working your hardest to make music fun and enjoyable for me and everyone at Eckstein. It has been so fun being in your band!" Scotty, student
